Link to BC Curriculum

The new BC Curriculum provides teachers with the freedom to develop and provide many opportunities for inquiry-based learning and a variety of areas to personalize learning. Providing students with an education that is both authentic and valuable is imperative to have students achieve a deeper level of thinking and lessons to develop their critical thinking skills which can be seen throughout the Core Competencies. Learning is meant to be understood and developed rather than relying on forms of memorization and lack of understanding. The Big Ideas and Content areas are essential for students to learn but still allow teachers to design lessons that will work for the needs of their individual classrooms. The curriculum is designed to be fluid in order to keep up with the rapidly changing world around us. The curriculum also places a priority on the importance of indigenizing the lessons, by including the First Peoples Principles of Learning and providing students with an inclusive, safe, and enjoyable learning experience. By providing these learning experiences and opportunities it develops the necessary skills and attributes for students to be integrated into society.
